Today marks 1 week on the detox! In my last post I’ve noted what things I’ve been doing during my detox so I’d like to share what I’ve noticed in 1 week.
Skin: I went through a period where I was constantly breaking out. I never had problems with breakouts on my face, but all of a sudden I was breaking out every single day in new places. I notice that my skin has stopped breaking out and that whatever was present is healing nicely without any scarring. Also, it is less dry and flaky and I can get away without moisturizing it! I’ve also noticed I haven’t been using hand cream as much, which is something I always had on ‘hand’ ;).
Digestion: Where do I begin…for so long I lived with a grumpy digestive tract. Everything made me bloated and I was hardly using the washroom. After doing a month of treatment with my intern at CCNM, washroom visits became more regular with the assistance of a magnesium supplement and a tincture. Now, since cutting out my food intolerances, using castor oil every night, and nightly castor oil packs, my digestion is normal even if I don’t take magnesium. The bloating is gone and I feel great for the first time in a long time. I’m also noticing a great reduction in sugar cravings, which took a while to conquer. Now, I can look at a donut or muffin and not feel completely overwhelmed by the urge to eat it.
Mentally: Detoxing, in all degrees of intensity, pushes you to your limits. If relying on food as a coping mechanism was the old habit, detoxing makes you sit with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings and makes you deal with them in a new way. Every day I am more and more at peace with my relationship with myself as my attitude towards my health improves. The new challenge will be to carry forward my detox through exams – an intensely stressful time when many students use snacks and coffee as coping tools to make it through. I’m guilty of this, but acknowledge that those behaviours didn’t serve me truly, they only masked a small part of my discomfort.
I’ve also inspired my mom to seek a more balanced life, which is so exciting. I think we should all feel and look exactly how we want to, no matter what age we are. Healthy is beautiful and I hope you wonderful readers can find a way to embrace a little more health in your lives =)
